Winter is usually a time of rest for the natural world, and we often perceive it as colorless or washed out. But we can put some color and shimmer into winter by using gold and flowers and gems to liven up our artwork. In this class we’ll explore the medieval and renaissance decorative art featuring flowers, insects, and gems on golden borders, and then students will create their own designs. This style of art tended to be much more realistic than most medieval book art, and it led directly to what the botanical illustration that we have today.  Botanical Art and Illustration Certificate elective.
